When Gautami Kapoor duplicated her actor husband Ram Kapoor’s weight reduction video, it caused an epic reaction from him that left everyone in stitches. “I shot it in a matter of seconds; I did not give it any attention. I did not anticipate Ram to respond because he was not in the country. However, I suspected something was coming since he is a prankster, and everyone enjoyed it,” she said.
Gautami praised Ram’s capacity for self-satire, saying, “Many made memes and videos about his transformation.” Ram enjoys making fun of himself, even though anyone else in his position might have been offended. That is an uncommon quality.
In an exclusive interview with IndianExpress.com, she expressed gratitude for Ram’s weight loss efforts, saying, “People only see the end result; they do not see the tough side of it.” For doing it, I am proud of him. He has experienced a great deal on a mental, emotional, and physical level. Sia, our daughter, also shed a lot of pounds. She actually began her fitness journey before Ram, and I believe she encouraged him to begin his own somewhere,” Gautami remarked.
Gautami’s fitness journey
Strength training, Pilates, and aerobic exercises like Zumba or treadmill walking are all part of Gautami’s routine. “I began working out at the age of 15, long before gyms were popular. Given that I come from a family of doctors, my objective has always been health rather than appearance.
She realized she was overtraining after first concentrating on jogging and exercises, even covering a distance of 0 to 15 kilometers in Shivaji Park. It was not common for women to lift weights back then. I followed drastic diets and did too much cardio without the right advice. Years later, I was injured as a result. My lean muscle mass had been reduced by the amount of cardio I had done. The most important lesson I learned was that.
However, she was forced to pause in 2010 due to a meniscus tear. “Overnight, I became immobile and required surgery.” It was the most difficult six to eight months of my life to regain strength in my left knee,” she recalled.
She now pays attention to her body: “I work out consistently, but I do not overdo it. Workouts are modified according to my body’s needs as I age and go through perimenopause. I do not need to convince anyone of anything.
Her favorite is the High Intensity Interval Terminal (HIIT), but she can only go there once a week. Because of my innate leanness, excessive cardio causes me to become excessively thin. Every week, my trainer modifies my HIIT exercises according to my mood,” she stated.
She views the exercise as essential for both her physical and mental well-being. “I find that going to the gym helps me decompress. I feel very at ease when I come out. “My holy grail is the gym or exercises,” Gautami remarked.
Diet and lifestyle
Gautami follows a simple, orderly, yet non-restrictive diet. “People think I do not eat butter, ghee, or fried food, but I eat everything.” I eat at 11:30 AM and finish my last meal by 6:30 PM, so my meals are set. She only eats homemade protein bars, almonds, and seeds as snacks. She remarked, “I am fortunate not to have a sweet tooth.”
The actor also stated that she does not “change my eating times unless I am working, shooting, or it is beyond my control,” adding that she came “from a family of simple Maharashtrians” and that she was raised with simple eating and dining habits.
She acknowledges that she is experiencing changes in her digestive system as a result of menopause. “Foods that I used to eat with ease two years ago now make me bloated or give me symptoms of IBS.” I therefore modify my diet appropriately.
She no longer consumes dairy. I quit entirely because milk and curd made me uncomfortable. Not even the move to almond milk has occurred to me. I only have two cups of black coffee every day.
An unavoidable part of her diet? “I have only had warm water for 20 years. All day long, only warm water—neither chilly nor room temperature.
Does she work out with Ram?
“Years ago, we did, but now our goals and timings do not align,” she said. “I have my targets, and he has different ones.”
She does, however, hope that they will soon work out together once more. It would be enjoyable and difficult. We would compete since I was very good at cardio and he had amazing strength back then. We will hopefully return to that shortly,” she stated.

Dancing and other hobbies
Gautami attributes her love of dancing to her mother, an Odissi dancer. “I adore dance and music.” I am passionate but untrained. I would love to sing if I am not dancing; I can sing very well, but people make fun of me for it! It is soothing to me.
“I had started playing the keyboard and want to pick it up again,” she says of her desire to resume learning a musical instrument.
A typical day in her life
Because it results in a better lifestyle and a fitter, healthier existence as you age, Gautami emphasizes consistency. “Even at home, I get up early and maintain an active lifestyle. I never take afternoon naps. My nightlife is nonexistent; I go to bed by 9:30 PM and only interact with others when it is absolutely necessary. I enjoy spending time at home, playing with my dogs, watching TV, and simply relaxing.
Skincare and parenting
Like her nutrition, her skincare regimen is straightforward. “Being raised by a dermatologist, I have learned that less is more. I avoid heavy products, drink plenty of water, and take off my makeup after photo shoots. I maintain a clean complexion. Additionally, even if I am attending an event, I will never, ever wear makeup while I am not photographing. I only apply a little lip and eye makeup. Gautami credited her parents with having “good genes” and stated, “That is all I do.”
She follows her upbringing as a parent. Despite being employed professionals, my parents instilled in my brother and me the values of self-reliance and discipline. I want my children to acquire the same knowledge.
She thinks that setting an example is important. You can not impose lessons on this age since they think for themselves. But they see our way of life. They will be content if they adhere to the same “keep it simple” philosophy.
