India’s growing concern over narco-terrorism is finding stronger public attention through Narco Jihad – When Drugs Fund Terror, the latest book by former Narcotics Control Bureau officer Dr. Monish Bhalla. The book, which examines how drug trafficking networks allegedly support terror financing and hybrid warfare against India, has drawn appreciation from senior national leaders, defence officials, and policymakers for bringing focus to what many now see as a serious national security concern.
Written from decades of enforcement experience and investigative research, Narco Jihad studies the growing nexus between narcotics trafficking, cross-border smuggling, terror financing, drone drops, maritime routes, hawala channels, and crypto-based money movement. Using case-led analysis and public records, the book argues that drugs are no longer merely a criminal or social issue, but part of a larger security challenge confronting India.
Recognition From National Leaders and Defence Officials
Among those who acknowledged the importance of the subject is Yogi Adityanath, who, in a letter addressed to Dr. Bhalla, described the “evil nexus of narcotics and terrorism” as “a matter of serious concern.” He further noted that the publication carries “much significance” and expressed hope that the book would succeed in achieving its objectives.

The book has also received appreciation from senior members of India’s defence leadership. Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan reportedly commended the work for highlighting what he described as the “sinister nexus between narcotics and terrorism,” calling it a grave challenge confronting the nation.
Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff, similarly appreciated the book for examining narco-terrorism and its impact on national security and social well-being.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also congratulated Dr. Bhalla on what was described as a useful publication addressing an issue of growing public importance.
The Bigger Questions Raised by the Book
What appears to be strengthening the conversation around Narco Jihad is the increasing recognition that narcotics trafficking cannot be viewed only through the lens of addiction or street crime. Security experts and policymakers are increasingly discussing the role of narco networks in destabilisation, organised crime, illegal financing, and terror operations.
The book studies incidents such as the Mundra Port heroin seizure, drone-based smuggling in Punjab, and financial routes involving hawala and cryptocurrency channels. It attempts to connect these cases into a larger pattern involving cross-border narco-terror networks.
At the same time, the book repeatedly stresses that the issue concerns narco-terrorism and cross-border criminal networks, not religion. Dr. Bhalla argues that the national conversation must remain focused on public safety, institutional reform, prevention, and security preparedness.
The Enforcement Experience Behind the Book
Dr. Bhalla has served in Customs, GST, and the Narcotics Control Bureau, gaining first-hand exposure to narcotics enforcement and financial crime investigations. Over the years, he has authored more than 20 books and written over 600 articles on narcotics law, taxation, legal reforms, and national security.
He is also recognised for his earlier work, India Drugged – An Eye Opener, which examined India’s growing drug crisis and is currently being adapted into an OTT crime series currently under development.
According to the author, the trigger for writing Narco Jihad was the April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack, which pushed him to connect years of enforcement observations with larger patterns involving narcotics and terror funding.
The Reforms Dr. Bhalla Says India Needs
“Narco Jihad is not a drug problem—it is a national security threat,” Dr. Bhalla writes in the book. In another strongly worded observation, he warns, “If we do not act now… we will not need a conventional conflict to destabilise India.”
Along with highlighting the threat, the book also pushes for structural reforms, including special narco-terror courts, real-time precursor tracking systems, financial chokeholds on terror-linked networks, and more accountable rehabilitation systems.
The Larger Debate Narco Jihad Is Trying to Start
As public discussion around narco-terrorism, border security, and illegal financial networks continues to grow, Narco Jihad – When Drugs Fund Terror is steadily entering wider national debate. Through research, enforcement insight, and public advocacy, Dr. Monish Bhalla is attempting to move the issue beyond headlines and into long-term policy discussion.
