In a notable development, HFCL Limited (HFCL), a technology enterprise in India and provider of state-of-the-art telecommunication products and solutions, is poised to transform its impact in the defence sector. This transformation involves a strategic focus on radar technologies to fulfil the critical Information, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) needs of Defence and Security Forces. The deployment of these cutting-edge radar technologies offers unparalleled advantages and showcases versatile applications across multiple sectors, underscoring HFCL’s unwavering dedication to innovation and excellence in the defence industry.

In its first offering, HFCL has developed a variety of surveillance radars to satisfy various operational requirements through its 90% owned subsidiary, Raddef Private Limited, an R&D company that specializes in state-of-the-art radars and radio frequency solutions. These radars use Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) technology, which has many benefits over conventional radar technologies, such as poor power consumption, excellent accuracy, and interference resistance.

FMCW radars have many uses, including weather radar and navigation systems, in addition to ground surveillance for border and national security. They are a crucial piece of technology for many contemporary applications because of their exceptional capacity to monitor both distance and velocity at the same time. These surveillance radars are incredibly adaptable, portable, and deployable over difficult and dangerous terrains, with a variety of versions to meet specific operational objectives.

Additionally, HFCL is working hard to build a cutting-edge drone detecting radar that will likely play a significant role in contemporary drone detection systems. Current state-of-the-art research and development projects at HFCL cover a wide variety of radar technology. Altimeters, fog and foliage penetration radars, coastal surveillance radars, Doppler weather radars, threat simulators, LTE-based passive radars, avalanche detection radars, and more are among them. These cutting-edge radar systems, which span multiple technologies, are essential to satisfying the functional and operational requirements of users in a variety of industries and fields.

By 2030, the global surveillance radar market is projected to grow from its current value of USD 6.87 billion annually to USD 12 billion annually.

“We are embarking on a transformative journey, driven by a vision to fortify national security and innovation,” stated Mahendra Nahata, HFCL’s managing director. Our commitment to equipping defense and security forces with state-of-the-art technology is demonstrated by our entry into ground surveillance radars, drone detection radars, and a variety of advanced radar systems. These radars, with their many uses in various industries, represent our commitment to protecting the present and building a safe future for our country. Our strategic 90% investment in Raddef Private Limited demonstrates HFCL’s dedication to supporting Made-in-India technology and strengthens our standing as a reliable partner in the field of defense communications.

India is the world’s third-largest military spender, behind the United States and China, with 3.7% of global military spending. Because of this, HFCL has a fantastic opportunity to lead and contribute to innovation in the Indian defense technology sector. Through its in-house defense technology advancements, HFCL is pleased to support the nation’s military modernization efforts in line with the government’s Made in India policy.
