Is the Indian stock market closed on March 31 or April 1 in observance of Eid-ul-Fitr?

Stock market holiday: Amid growing worries about the economic effects of US President Donald Trump’s tariff actions, the Indian stock market ended the fiscal year 2024–2025 (FY25) with a 5% gain. Following five months of losses, the index increased in March as a result of strengthening macroeconomic data and the return of foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) to the Indian market.

Even though the market is still a little cautious, merchants, investors, and other Indians are getting ready for Eid. There seems to be some misunderstanding, though, regarding whether Monday, March 31, or April 1 will see the closure of the Indian stock market. This is because, depending on when the crescent moon is sighted, India will celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on either March 31 or April 1.

The two stock exchanges in the nation, the NSE and the BSE, have already published their holiday schedules for the current year, so traders and investors should not be confused.

Stock market holiday for Eid-ul-Fitr

On Monday, March 31, 2025, the Indian stock market will be closed for Eid-ul-Fitr. The BSE and NSE holiday calendars indicate that on March 31, 2025, these two stock exchanges will be closed in observance of Eid-ul-Fitr.

On March 31, the currency derivatives segment as well as the stock market will close.

The commodity derivatives section, on the other hand, will be closed in the morning but open in the evening, starting at 5 PM and staying open until 11:30 or 11:55 PM.
