Nepal Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli promised to punish former King Gyanendra Shah severely on Monday for the violence that erupted during last week’s pro-monarchy protest in Kathmandu.
Speaking before the House of Representatives, Oli charged that the former king had sided with those who were not paying back bank loans and incited civil turmoil in order to further his own goals. The accused organizers broke into the restricted area and tried to drive a car over the police. Terrorist acts included burning the oil company’s facility and the international airport, according to Oli.
“Looting a shopping mall, burning down a herbal company, and setting fire to someone is home cannot be regarded as political activities,” he stated. “The former king appointed a so-called commander and invited those unruly people to his house.”
The prime minister made no disparaging remarks about India in the House, despite his irate declaration at the central committee meeting of his Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist that he would expose the country for supporting the pro-monarchy movement. Additionally, Oli expressed his desire to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the BIMSTEK Summit, which Thailand is hosting starting on April 3.
