According to news agency Yonhap, US President Donald Trump stated on Monday that he is in “communication” with Kim Jong-un of North Korea and that his administration will take action against the Kim dictatorship “at some point.”

Three in-person encounters between the presidents took place between 2018 and 2019 as a result of rumors that Trump had held direct diplomatic discussions with Kin Jong-un during his first term in 2018.

When asked when he plans to contact Kim, Trump responded, “We have a great relationship, and yeah, we have…there is communication,” in reference to North Korea, at a press briefing.

Trump described North Korea as a “big nuclear nation” and referred to Kim Jong-un as a “smart guy.”

The US president recalled meeting with Kim in June 2019, when he entered North Korea at Kim’s request and crossed the Military Demarcation Line.

He and I were quite close. I recall walking over the line after putting my foot over it. At some point, I will probably do something,” Trump continued.

Having met with Kim Jong-un during his first term, Trump had promised to reach out to him again when he assumed office for the second time in January.

To date, Trump and North Korean leader Kim have met three times: in Singapore in June 2018, in Hanoi in February 2019, and at the inter-Korean truce village of Panmunjom in June 2019.
