Two persons were killed and seven others were injured when an SUV carrying passengers to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s event in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, went off a bridge and into a river on Sunday, according to police, who were quoted by PTI.
The accident happened close to Kotmi village within the boundaries of the Pendra police station at around nine in the morning, according to the report.
A policeman gave additional details regarding the mishap. The SUV was traveling from the Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur (MCB) district to Bilaspur with eight passengers.
When the SUV driver reached the bridge over the Son River, he said, he lost control of the wheel, struck a woman walking, and then plunged into the river.
Both the driver and the female pedestrian perished instantly in the collision, while seven other SUV occupants were hurt.
According to the official, the deceased were identified as Babu Lal Chaudhary, the driver, and Ramita Bai, a resident of Pandrikhar village.
Five of the injured are in critical condition, and all were admitted to the Gaurela District Hospital.
50 Naxalites surrender in Chhattisgarh:
According to the police, 50 Naxalites turned themselves in earlier in the day in the Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh on Sunday, according to PTI. Fourteen of the fifty Naxalites were carrying a total prize of ₹68 lakh. In front of high-ranking state police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officers, they all surrendered their weapons.
They gave up, citing the inhumane and vacuous Maoist doctrine, the exploitation of tribal people by high-ranking members of the banned Maoist Communist Party of India, and internal strife within the organization. The establishment of security forces’ camps and the “Niya Nellanar” (your good village) program, which sees the government and military provide basic facilities in isolated places, have also impressed them, according to Bijapur Senior Superintendent of Police Jitendra Kumar Yadav.
“Of the 50 who turned themselves in, three have bounties of ₹5 lakh each, and six have incentives of ₹8 lakh each. Each of the five is carrying a prize of ₹1 lakh. Their surrender was made possible in large part by the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Bastar Fighters, Special Task Force (STF), CRPF, and its elite unit CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action), according to Yadav.
